A week ago, the readership of my blog consisted of perhaps a couple of dozen of my friends, acquaintances and family. And because of a poor decision on my part, it is now being viewed often by an entirely different audience, most of whom have an interest in matters pertaining to the Odyssey.
This blog has two purposes for me: the first is to document my trips so that friends and family can vicariously enjoy my travels. The second is to give me a creative outlet in which I can demonstrate how clever, witty, good-looking and special I am. Because it is my personal blog, I am allowed to take licence with the truth and exaggerate, stretch, and misremember the actual events that I experience during my travels in order to create what I think are memorable and interesting blog posts.
My intent in coming onboard the Odyssey was not to create controversy and become embroiled in what I am learning is a very polarizing situation. My intent was to have the most adventurous and memorable 60 days of my life and experience temporarily a lifestyle that only a few very lucky people can even dream of, let alone actually experience. And more importantly, to meet and hang out with some of the most interesting people on the planet who share my love for travel and adventure. And better yet, have some of those meetings develop into life-long friendships.
My heart breaks for everyone who is being impacted by this uncertainty in ways that immeasurably outnumber my own. And to the extent that my decision to post information about the Odyssey, factual or otherwise, added fuel to whatever fires are burning around this topic, I am genuinely and truly sorry.
